Estimation of Intrauterine Fetal Growth by Using B-scan Ultrasonography

Abstract
The fetal biparietal diameter was taken by using A and B mode of ultrasound for evaluation of fetal maturity. It was performed in 250 unselected Korean pregnant women and biparietal diameter of 312 Korean newborn babies were measured. From the data, we obtained the equation, which can be needed for estimation of fetal weight.
The results were as follows
1) The relationship between the biparietal diameter of 312 normal Korean newborn _infants:. and their weights were quite obvious and calculated by means of the equation,Y=0. 86X-4.62kg; (But it is accurate when it is only applied in pregnant women of 3743 weeks of getation. )
2) The growth rates of biparietal diameter according to, each gestational week were, .Y=-,O. 27X-O.. 75cm in 20.28 gestational week, and Y=O. 18X+1.-95cm in 29-43 gestational week, respectively. These mean, that the fetal biparietal diameter increases in a certain rate, regularly, as the pregnancy progresses.
3). The correlative differences of ultrasonic biparietal diameter and postnatal actual measurement were, within ¡¾ .1mm in 85.2% and ¡¾ 1.5mm in 94.¢¥3%.
4),T-he regression line of the ultrasonic biparietal diameter and actual biparietal diameter, , is` Y=0.55X+4.04 and the significant differences were not showed. (t=24.10, P<0.001.
5), The mean error between estimated body weight by using above growth equation and the postnatal actual weight was 133gm.
The data is most confident in 36-43 .gestational week.
